Propagation of Multiple Observations in QPNs Revisited

چکیده
The sign-propagation algorithm for inference with a qualitative probabilistic network has been designed to handle a single observation at a time. Multiple observations can in essence be dealt with by entering them consecutively and combining the results of the successive propagations, or by entering them for a newly added dummy node. We demonstrate that both approaches can yield weaker results than necessary. We identify the causes underlying this unnecessary weakness and adapt the propagation algorithm so as to provide for the strongest possible results upon inference.

We discuss a figured pin from Shahdad, previously well known but published with a partial and unsatisfactory drawing. More detailed observations and a new, more realistic recording of this important artifact reconsider its stylistic and iconographic links with the imagery of the Halil Rud civilization and the eastern Iranian Plateau in general, and, at its opposite cultural poles, with Mesopot...
متن کاملBelief Propagation in Qualitative Probabilistic Networks
Qualitative probabilistic networks (QPNs) [13] are an abstraction of in uence diagrams and Bayesian belief networks replacing numerical relations by qualitative in uences and synergies. To reason in a QPN is to nd the e ect of decision or new evidence on a variable of interest in terms of the sign of the change in belief (increase or decrease). We review our work on qualitative belief propagati...

We introduce a polynomial time algorithm for reasoning in QPNs, based on local sign pr...
متن کاملSpecifying and Analyzing Virtual Network Services Using Queuing Petri Nets
For optimal placement and orchestration of network services, it is crucial that their structure and semantics are specified clearly and comprehensively and are available to an orchestrator. Existing specification approaches are either ambiguous or miss important aspects regarding the behavior of virtual network functions (VNFs) forming a service. We propose to formally and unambiguously specify...
